Having your face licked by Sharon Osbourne and being called "rubbish" by Jonathan Ross is all in a day's work for the ludicrously talented (and ruggedly handsome, ladies ...) Seth Lakeman, Mercury-nominated as far back as 2005 when, even then, his organic energy and fiddle-driven performance put that year's indie-hopefuls to shame. With an approach to the folk beast more in common with Peter Doherty and Richard Thompson, yes, he's upset some purists but with ever-so-slightly swashbuckling and heroic tales married to a deep understanding of traditional roots (most notably the legends of Devon and Cornwall) our hero is, HAS, conquered the world of folk and now seeks the rest of the world. Yup, folk is cool.
Support comes from the rather wonderful Delta Maid. Straight from the banks of the Mersey delta, 25 year old blues singer Delta Maid, delivers moonshine swaddled servings of blues’n’bourbon inspired songwomanship, which owes as much to Nashville and Memphis as it does from Delta’s straight talking hometown of Liverpool. Recently she has recorded with Liam Watson at London’s legendary analogue studio, Toerag (White Stripes, The Cribs and The Kills). The result, a new 5 track EP, includes cover versions of J.B Lenoir and Eric Bibb aswell as originals. Delta Maid is a serious talent, and an extra treat on this great bill.
